KRISHNA DULAL CHATTOPADYAY
Krishna Dulal Chattopadhyay, a retired English teacher, is well-known as a folk poet of Bankura, a district in West Bengal, India. His pen aptly focuses on the lives and activities of the rural folks of red soil of Bankura. He is a robust lover of folk lore. The prolonged sufferings of the ‘have-nots’ pain the poet much, and he utilizes common dialects in his poems to allow the illiterate mass of the village den understand the rhymes and rhythms of his poetry, aiming at social reform and focusing on their hopes and aspirations as well.
He has published many books of poems written in Bengali – the colloquial dialect version. His books, “The Fire of chaffs” (book cover page below) and “The Rhymes of the Red Soil” document the sufferings of the down-trodden people of our society.
