DR. SUBHASH CHANDRA BISWAS
Subhash was fortunate to be born in a large and wealthy family in a remote village of Bengal in undivided India. But life became a hard struggle for him when he lost his father during his childhood. This struggle became harder when India was partitioned, and Subhash, still a young boy, became a refugee in India. Despite extreme hardship, armed with his love of learning, he acquired the degree of B.Sc. with honours in Physics and later, the degrees of B. Tech in Applied Physics and M.Tech in Optical Engineering from Calcutta University.
After completing these programs, Subhash first joined the National Instruments Ltd in Kolkata (Calcutta) as an optical engineer and then, the Defence Science Laboratory in New Delhi as a Junior Scientific Officer. From New Delhi, he moved to Dehradun to join the Instruments Research and Development Establishment. Based on his extensive experience and expertise, he was selected as a Senior Scientific Officer with the responsibility to start a new branch of the Directorate of Technical Development and Production (Air) to be located in Dehradun. This involved a huge project to renovate the lighting systems of a few airports of India. But then his ambition for making a career in scientific research inspired him to accept a position in Calcutta University to do some productive research in the newly emerged field of Laser Holography.
His next career move brought him to the Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada where he obtained the degree of Doctorat es Sciences (D.Sc.) in Physics. He then taught Physics in Université Laval, Electrical/Computer Engineering in Sept-Iles College and finally Physics again in Ottawa University. He carried out scientific research in the fields of Classical Optics, Instrumentation, Light propagation in turbulent media, Electromagnetic theory, Radio telescopes etc. He attended many international conferences to present his research findings and published many papers in reputed scientific journals in both French and English.
Subhash is now retired and spends his time mainly in reading books, journals and other articles that respond to his curiosity and interest. He has a passion for Physics, Science in general, Literature and Spirituality. He is also very fond of travelling and writes articles on places he visits. During school years, Subhash used to write poems in Bengali. That literary craze has crept back up in this matured stage of his life. With rekindled passion, he is now writing poems in Bengali and English.
